German shoppers slug it out with salami
Parmesan 'dagger' contributes to trolley-rage casualtiesA couple of German shoppers ended up in hospital last Saturday after an argument over a trolley ended in a full-blown scrap involving fists, a salami and a fearsome 4lb wedge of parmesan used as an improvised dagger.
The action kicked off in an Aachen supermarket, as a 74-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman disputed possession of the vehicle. According to the Telegraph, when the old timer "wrestled the cart from the hands of his rival", her 24-year-old bruv weighed in and decked the pensioner with one punchThinking that was an end to the matter, the victorious pair and their 53-year-old mother trundled their trophy off to the cheese counter. However, the battling septuagenarian gave pursuit and began to club the brother with a salami, as mum attempted to "fend him off" with the aforementioned Italian dairy product.
For her trouble, she ended up with a cracked head as the old man shoved her against the glass countertop.
Law enforcement operatives were required to break up the rumpus, and two of the participants were subsequently treated for minor injuries.
A police spokesman explained that "a sudden rush of shoppers" had provoked an acute shortage of trolleys and "raised tensions". The cart at the centre of the incident was "undamaged", the Telegraph notes.
