Gmail Labs experiment 'Google Zoeken' en Gmail Buzz

Gmail Labs experiment 'Google Zoeken' en Gmail Buzz

zondag 31 januari 2010

Volunteers, anyone?

Hello world, hello beautiful people

I am sure this Garfield will gonna make you smile into the week, and that you like the song below it as well!

Yes, we finally will try to get into the normal swing again, a normal Monday, household is calling, I pretend to be deaf until the coffee pot is empty -smile-, so far it worked out pretty well.
Ah well, further I think there is not too much to mention on this morning.
I said it a month ago. This year is gonna be my year. And I keep on telling this, so far it worked out pretty well!

Have a wonderful day today, lots of greetings from Germany, where the snow keeps on falling...

The Mysterious Voynich Manuscript

Explanation: The ancient text has no known title, no known author, and is written in no known language: what does it say and why does it have many astronomy illustrations? The mysterious book was once bought by an emperor, forgotten on a library shelf, sold for thousands of dollars, and later donated to Yale. Possibly written in the 15th century, the over 200-page volume is known most recently as the Voynich Manuscript, after its (re-)discoverer in 1912. Pictured above is an illustration from the book that appears to be somehow related to the Sun. The book labels some patches of the sky with unfamiliar constellations. The inability of modern historians of astronomy to understand the origins of these constellations is perhaps dwarfed by the inability of modern code-breakers to understand the book's text. Can the eclectic brain trust of APOD readers make any progress? If you think you can provide any insight, instead of sending us email please participate in a fresh online discussion. The book itself remains in Yale's rare book collection under catalog number "MS 408."

On my way up

A song from Brian may, from the mini red special EP, from the live performance in Paris in 1998.

I thought I should add the lyrics, they suit me.

Hey
I'm on my way up
Can't put me down
Business is tough
I ain't gonna get pushed around
I'm on my way
Gonna take this town
It's gonna be mine all mine, it's my time
I'm on my way (on my way up)
Straight to the top (I'm telling myself)
Oh I'm telling myself (I'm totally sussed)
I'm putting my name around
On my way up
(On my way up) Gonna get that rhythm
Got positivism to give 'em

I'm on my way through
Where I'm going to
You wouldn't believe
But I'll make it I'm telling you
I'm on a roll
Gonna have it all
It's gonna be fine so fine, baby all the time
I'm in control (on my way up)
I'm mighty bold (I'm telling myself)
I'm looking good (I'm totally sussed)
I'm quitting the neighbourhood
On my way up (yes I am)
(On my way up) Gonna get right with 'em
Got all of my life left for living

Nobody gonna tell me no
Nobody gonna stop me so
Everybody gonna see me grow
Nobody gonna hold me down
Gotta get to be better place
Gotta wake up and see your face
Gotta hold on
Move on
Go through that wall

It's my life or it's nothing
Our life or it's nothing at all

I'm on my way up, yeah
Better come with me, lets go

I'm on my way (on my way up)
Yeah, gonna get it right (I'm telling myself)
Oh I'm telling myself (I'm totally sussed)
Gonna make it this time around
On my way up
(On my way up) gonna get that rhythm baby
(On my way up) gonna start that living baby
(On my way up)
Got all of my sights set on heaven

Ain't no stopping me now...

Of no value?

This quote of the Dalai Lama is again something so true.
We are what we make of us, and no one else than we are making ourselves the way we are.
Sometimes I feel useless as well, but when I look at those moments, I realize that it is most of all because I sit down and feel so sorry for myself, my situation and so on.

Realizing how I come into a situation, why things are the way they are, gives me an insight view and understanding why. It is a very comfortable feeling to know that it is in my own hands, what I make of life.

bad hair? LOL

Good sunday everyone

Or is it good snowday? This winter seems to be an endless one with snow and low temperatures, but, the snow is melting faster away, and the daylight slowly get longer, we're on our way to spring!

It have been a bit strange days, the past ones, nothing to complain, they were realy fine, and next week all will return to the normal swing again.

Enjoy your sunday, for what is left of it and under the picture is a nice 'cover' of a good song.

Explanation: Charles Messier described the 88th entry in his 18th century catalog of Nebulae and Star Clusters as a spiral nebula without stars. Of course the gorgeous M88 is now understood to be a galaxy full of stars, gas, and dust, not unlike our own Milky Way. In fact, M88 is one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster some 50 million light-years away. M88's beautiful spiral arms are easy to trace in this colorful cosmic portait. The arms are lined with young blue star clusters, pink star-forming regions, and obscuring dust lanes extending from a yellowish core dominated by an older population of stars. Spiral galaxy M88 spans over 100,000 light-years.

Done (and a big thank you to all!)

Hello you wonderful people

Before all, I want to thank everyone from deep inside my heart for the nice words and gratulations.
I had a very nice day, I can say, WE had a very nice day, even with the huge frustration of a not functioning internet.
After again some frustrations with the helpdesk I finally torn out all the cables, reset the modem and tv topset thingy, and connected it all MY way, what was not complicated. And tadaaa it worked, so my lesson for the past days is that I should trust myself more than help desk workers, also just what I'd use to do!

We had a nice day yesterday, including too much cake, and the best b day gift I could wish, a coffee machine, this time in dark red, ah yes that suits this young man. As long as the coffee is brown!

Okay, again, thank you all so much for the nice words, I know where they came from and how they were meant!

Garfield again, back to normal, with a nice song under it, enjoy

Blogger stopt met FTP ondersteuning

Blogger stopt met FTP ondersteuning

zaterdag 23 januari 2010

Let it snow

Good afternoon on this sunday, day 2 of a long row of free days here.

Funny, at the moment this Garfield ran into my mail, it started snowing here as well, the winter is definitely not over yet, no matter if we are dreaming or not.

To take it with a song, if you cant beat them, join them! Also, nice warm in house, door locked and going out as little as possible.
Nice when you can have such, now and than!

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and start in the week. We meet again!

Eclipses in the Shade

Eclipses in the Shade

Explanation: Eclipses are everywhere in this shady scene. The picture was taken on the Indian Ocean atoll island of Ellaidhoo, Maldives, on January 15, during the longest annular solar eclipse for the next 1,000 years. Tall palm trees provided the shade. Their many crossed leaves created gaps that acted like pinhole cameras, scattering recognizable eclipse images across the white sands of a tropical garden near the beach. From this idyllic location near the centerline of the Moon's shadow track, the ring of fire or annular phase of the eclipse lasted about 10 minutes and 55 seconds.

YouTube Disco

YouTube Disco

donderdag 21 januari 2010

YouTube test nieuwe layout videopagina

YouTube test nieuwe layout videopagina

donderdag 23 januari 2010

Planning..

A very good morning today for you all

2 more days and than another long week off, enough plans could be made, but I prefer to plan not too much, and let myself being surprised by the day.
Yesterday surprised me unhappily, we do have that new internet account what is not working fine -yet- and it took me hours with consulting the helpdesk and the result... no change at all, an unstable internet connection and no television over this cable.

-deeep sigh- it is better to visit the doughnut shop now and than, I tell you :))
So, that's todays' struggle, trying to get a bit further with this internet stuff. The day has started very early, so I am already a few hours on my way.

Have a nice day, smile with everything you do, it is worth it.
And the song under the picture is for who is at the right time at the right place -smile-

Officials Try to Prevent Haitian Earthquake Refugees From Coming to US

Officials Try to Prevent Haitian Earthquake Refugees From Coming to US

by Spencer S. Hsu

As a massive international relief effort lurches into gear, U.S. officials are stepping up measures to prevent last week's earthquake in Haiti from triggering a Caribbean migration not seen in two nearly two decades.

[A group of refugees walk along a road of Port-au-Prince, January 18, 2010. (REUTERS/Tatyana Makeyeva)]A group of refugees walk along a road of Port-au-Prince, January 18, 2010. (REUTERS/Tatyana Makeyeva)
Experts see no signs for now of a seaborne exodus, although history shows that such events are difficult to predict. Still, South Florida counties have prepared contingency plans, immigration authorities have cleared space in a 600-bed detention center in Miami, and Obama administration officials have begun discouraging Haitians from attempting the hazardous 600-mile sea crossing to Florida.

"Please: If any Haitians are watching, there may be an impulse to leave the island and to come here," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Saturday at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Homestead, Fla., where she joined Vice President Biden in speaking to relief workers at a federal staging area.

"This is a very dangerous crossing. Lives are lost every time people try to make this crossing," Napolitano said, adding that Haitians caught at sea will be repatriated. "Please do not have us divert our necessary rescue and relief efforts that are going into Haiti by trying to leave at this point."

The warnings come paired with a giant humanitarian operation to rebuild Port-au-Prince, position U.S. military assets in the area, and adjust U.S. and international immigration policies. In the long run, such measures would be the most effective tools to prevent a refugee crisis, current and former government officials said.

With as many as 3 million people affected by Tuesday's quake, the stakes for the Obama administration in heading off a wave of migrants are high.

"We don't want to have destabilization in Haiti, and deaths of this magnitude in Haiti cause destabilization and have political implications," said Andrew S. Natsios, a veteran foreign aid official who led U.S. relief efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and Sudan and during the Asian tsunami in 2004.

"You cannot prohibit people from moving under international law if they feel threatened. But you can create incentives to stay," said Natsios, head of the U.S. Agency for International Development from 2001 to 2006. "If you do the relief response right, most people will want to rebuild."

American presidents since Jimmy Carter have grappled with flows of migrants from the Caribbean triggered by political crises, wars and natural disasters. The sudden influx of 100,000 Cubans and 25,000 Haitians in the 1980 Mariel boatlift left some refugees in U.S. camps for years.

After a coup in Haiti in 1991, the U.S. government housed 12,000 Haitian migrants in Guantanamo Bay and admitted 10,000 before a new government was in place in 1994, a year in which the U.S. Coast Guard stopped and rescued 64,000 Haitians and Cubans at sea.

Spurred by reports that Cuban leader Fidel Castro was in failing health in 2006, the U.S. government embarked on an intensive contingency plan, called Operation Vigilant Sentry, signed by Michael Chertoff, then homeland security secretary, in 2007. A central feature of the plan is a public messaging campaign designed to dissuade Cubans -- then the focus -- from risking the life-threatening 90-mile journey across the Florida straits.

Although electronic mass media in Haiti is virtually nonexistent -- and the trip to America a harrowing three days instead of a few hours -- the enormous pending flow of aid, troops and official statements is conveying a similar message.

"It's not that the deterrence is the physical power; it's more the soft power," said Coast Guard Capt. Robert B. Watts, chief of drug and migrant interdiction policy from 2006 to 2008 and now a professor at the National War College. "You let people know you're there if you need help but that it doesn't make sense to leave."

Nations worldwide have pledged $400 million so far to Haiti, the Western Hemisphere's poorest country, led by $100 million by the United States. By comparison, when Hurricane Mitch devastated Central America in 1998, U.S. spending and debt relief totaled $900 million, most of which went to Honduras.

"The best thing we can do is spend as much relief aid as possible in Haiti," Natsios said. "Make sure food arrives promptly. Restart and stimulate Haitian markets. Restore people's lives."

U.S. officials are also adopting new immigration measures, combining carrots and sticks. On Wednesday, Napolitano suspended deportations of 100,000 to 200,000 Haitians in the country illegally, and on Friday, she announced that those in the country as of Jan. 12 could apply for temporary protected status so they can help send financial aid to their devastated homeland.

Homeland security officials, however, warned that Haitians caught trying to enter the United States illegally will still be detained and deported. Florida officials said contingency plans could call for housing migrants at the Homestead base if space beyond the federal Krome immigration detention center is needed.

Elsewhere in the region, the Bahamas set up processing facilities on its island nearest Haiti, beefing up medical, shelter and law enforcement resources.

Thad M. Bingel, former chief of staff of U.S. Customs and Border Protection from 2007 until March, said that under Vigilant Sentry, U.S. officials expect a warning of several days if residents begin to build or stage boats and a coordinated response of more than 30 federal, state and local groups to safely intercept migrants if Napolitano and the National Security Council activate plans.

In any mass migration, he added, "the challenges are recognizing that government has a humanitarian role as well as an enforcement role."

Staff writer Peter Whoriskey in Miami contributed to this report.

Purrrrfect?

Good afternoon everybody

Well, I can truly say that it is a perfect day today

Or, in Garfields' style it should be a purrfect day maybe.

Today is one of those days that I wanted to do so many, but so few is coming out of my hands.
But.. I don't mind and who does mind can take some action, I should say -smile-

Slowly (but not that slowly) our next free week comes and I look forward to it.
and for now
I just want to remind you
that life sometimes seems so easy
but don't be fooled, it might be not that easy indeed!

Enjoy this perfect day, and the song is only one click (at the pic) away!

I wrote this poem at dutch (text in my group)
and translated it as good as I could

Photobucket

Sometimes
I am just not good
Nothing comes out of my hands
Sometimes
I as well have such days
That I bent my head
Leave me alone, I am not here, for a bit
What a long time it takes, before this day has ended

I know, and tell myself time after time
After the rain the sun will shine
This shower will not last forever
Behind the horizont there is the light
But pft, at such a moment
please not
I want to be as small
Just want to be down

For a while in my corner
Nice and lonely I should be
With the safe wall
cozy around me
I slightly look up
Seeing just the stones

I DO remember
But I can't see it ....
when I sit down
I have to raise
and climb a bit
Conquering my shadow

And when I then
Look over the wall
I see again what I did miss
I hear your smile
in my eyes
I feel your warmth
What never betrayed me

O yes, I am sure
you are my friend
I stumble out of my corner
You deserved so much better

Sparkling sunshine greets me
Much too long hidden
How much I need this

I'll be there
We shall be there
together

Sometimes
I feel me a bit alone
But always

as he wishes

I have friends like you
around me

Careful!

Good (here) afternoon to you all!

Tuesday again, a grey day at the German border, but who cares, we carry our own sunshine with us, and as long as there is Garfield, there is nothing to worry.
The coffeepot is empty, so the cookies are locked away as well, there is nothing what can keep me away from core business any longer -lol-, so here you have it.

The biggest news today is that my girl will have another week off, next week, what a luxury, and all the consequences of working too much past year. Oh well, let me not complain and get used to the extra pair of eyes -smile-

I leave you now with wishing you a wonderful day, and take care of the dog.
There's one of that super-songs under the picture, enjoy it!

Hot news -lol-

Good Morning everyone

Well well well, another week, another monday, and I must say, It's tough to find the swing again, after a nice and relaxing week off! Okay, the routine rolls on, 2nd laundry is ready, 2nd pot of coffee as well -smile-, but still... it feels as if I am not here :)

Ah well, as my sweet friend Mel wrote at FB, life goes on, ice cap or not, LOL, and that's the way it is.
The heath is on, there is no hot news and I am realy dived into the music of 'the boss' today. You gonna notice it later.
Here's a nice clip under the picture, I realy love his music and I am sure that you love this song as well, it is definitely not too heavy for the angels and some others.

Take care and love life, cos life loves you too!

Atlantis to Orbit

Explanation: Birds don't fly this high. Airplanes don't go this fast. The Statue of Liberty weighs less. No species other than human can even comprehend what is going on, nor could any human just a millennium ago. The launch of a rocket bound for space is an event that inspires awe and challenges description. Pictured above, the Space Shuttle Atlantis lifted off to visit the International Space Station during the early morning hours of 2001 July 12. From a standing start, the two million kilogram rocket ship left to circle the Earth where the outside air is too thin to breathe and where there is little noticeable onboard gravity. Rockets bound for space are now launched from somewhere on Earth about once a week.

Bing nu ook met eigen url-verkorter? (Binged.it)

Bing nu ook met eigen url-verkorter? (Binged.it)

vrijdag 15 januari 2010
