Mr Know it all

good morning lovely people, all over the world

I am sure this one is going to make you all smile --
it made me laughing out loud!

An early start of the day, I was already out of the house at 6.30, and now I'm back, enjoying my coffee and still having a nice part of the day to go on forward.
The last month of the year, and you will all be aware that christmas is coming.

Today, however, it is a day that I love to remind to all of you. It is world aids day today. A day on what I remember so many that did pass away due to this virus.
There is still a lot of work to do in this as well.

Okay, that was the serious note.
The clip under the pic (one click away) is from loooong ago,
(but fits the picture anyway I guess)

Life goes on. Enjoy it, you're in the middle of it right now

Explanation: This was just one more breathtaking view from the International Space Station. The Sun, a crescent Earth, and the long arm of a solar panel were all visible outside a window when the Space Shuttle Atlantis visited the orbiting outpost last week. Reflections from the window and hexagonal lens flares from the camera are superposed. The space shuttle landed Friday after a successful 10 day mission to expand and resupply the ISS. Numbered STS-129, the space shuttle mission returned astronaut Nicole Stott to Earth from her stay on the ISS as a Flight Engineer in the Expedition 20 and 21 crews.

Bob Catley - the pain

a wonderful artist

with awesome music,

enjoy

Shock, disbelief stained the blackest of mornings
Lost in a scene from this nightmare come true
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done, the pain lingers on in the world

Life was an emotional knife
It cut the flesh, it hit the bone
It made reality a web of lies
Life was a perpetual high
Up on the wire without a net
He couldn't balance so he took a dive

When Vegas called he got the message far away
They begged this worn out king to play
The mighty fall, inside the measure of the day
It's pitiful, it's all in vain

Shock, disbelief stained the blackest of mornings
Lost in a scene from this nightmare come true
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done, the pain lingers on in the world

Life and its unbearable fire
The night his mother passed away
He poured his soul into her funeral pyre

Life, through unforgettable eyes
For though he tried to face the dark
He lost the battle but he never dies

He had it all somehow he let it slip away
Much of his death is unexplained
Now just a memory shines out beyond the grave
Remembers all that now remains

Shock, disbelief stained the blackest of mornings
Lost in a scene from this nightmare come true
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done, the pain lingers on in the world
Lingers on in the world... oh!
(Guitar Solo)
Oh!
(Keyboard Solo)
Oh, no! No! No! No!
Oh! - Shock, disbelief stained the blackest of mornings
Lost in a scene from this nightmare come true
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done, the pain lingers on in the world
Shock, disbelief stained the blackest of mornings
Lost in a scene from this nightmare come true
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done, the pain lingers on in the world
This wasn't meant to be the end of the story
Now that it's done... oh!

ENG CoTweet

(www.tweet3.com)

ENG Digsby

Office To-Go

Do I learn from the past?
I am not sure that I do.
Often I say, okay, this won't happen again
But before I realize it
things happen again
Maybe slightly different, but still

Am I learning from my mistakes
in a way yes
But it depends highly on how you define mistakes
Is a mistake something that went wrong
on purpose, or just as an accident
Or because I just didnt know better?

You tell me, I don't know

But do NOT tell me, or ask me
'what are you going to change?'
Because when you ask that
My answer might be

what do I need to change
to prevent myself from doing things
that turn out slightly different than I expected?

Is it realy wrong what I did
Or did I only have wrong expectations
from what my effort might have resulted in

About head and hat

Good morning, welcome to the manic monday, what a way to start the week, cant we start with Tuesday?

Up early, telephone at 6 am, we WERE awake but it was too early (because it was for me lol), than I forgot to switch on the coffee machine for the numerous time, cut in my finger while I tried to create a slice of bread ..

Okay, ;) I hope you do have a wonderful monday. Mine is good so far, most of all with the knowledge that next day is coming up as well as christmas

Dont loose your head, it might be needed for decoration!

And.. you could guess the song under todays' Garfield, just one click away

Ancient Layered Hills on Mars
Credit: Malin Space Science Systems, MOC, MGS, JPL, NASA

Explanation: Is this a picture of Mars or Earth? Oddly enough, it is a picture of Mars. What may appear to some as a terrestrial coastline is in fact a formation of ancient layered hills and wind-blown sand on Mars. The above-pictured region spans about three kilometers in Schiaparelli Crater. What created the layers of sediment is still a topic of research. Viable hypotheses include ancient epochs of deposit either from running water or wind-blown sand. Winds and sandstorms have smoothed and eroded the structures more recently. The "water" that appears near the bottom is actually dark colored sand. The image was taken with the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft that operated around Mars from 1996-2006 and returned over 200,000 images.

decissions, decissions ..

Good afternoon everybody

It's a lazy afternoon indeed and I am happy that I am not in Jon's shoes LOL, poor man, it is good that Garfield didnt join, he should starve with all that waiting for food.

A lazy day, also, and I am enjoying it very very much.

Under the cartoon is an approperiate clip, this was the first song I heard this morning and I thought it was a good one for now.

dromen

Hallo allemaal

scarving down pastries

Good evening lovely people, where ever you are and whatever you do

Late, but not too late for the cat I think.

It was a nice day, I baked some cookies, hmmm, and I did taste them already, hey, someone has to sacrifice himself, to see if the stuff turned out well, right?
And since Garfield is far away (thank heaven) or just dreaming
Than it leaves me no other choice than try it myself!

Have a lovely satur-n-day evening, a nice weekend, and well, there is a song under the pic, one click away, but it is not a surprise this time!

Happy days, happy dreaming

Brein haalt Amsterdamse topsite offline

Brein haalt Amsterdamse topsite offline

Police smoke out 300-pound frozen turkey thief

a thanksgiving story ..

Police smoke out 300-pound frozen turkey thief

Homeless giant repaid hospitality with fridge invasion

Police in Michigan are hunting an enormous homeless burglar who swiped a family's Thanksgiving turkey.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports that the Sobiegray family were left facing a fowl-free Thanksgiving, after the man kicked down their front door and raided their freezer on Tuesday night.

The suspect in the theft of the 13-pound bird is described as a "300-pound, 6-foot man who is bald with blue eyes".

To add insult to injury, lady of the house Susan Sobiegray said that she and her neighbours had been helping the homeless giant with food and a place to stay in recent weeks.

That was clearly not enough for the famished man mountain, who tore into the Sobiegray's fridge, "as if there was gold in it".

"It was ridiculous," Sobiegray said. "He threw all the food all over the kitchen floor, which wasn't much."

The paper reports that the investigation continues. Given the bird was frozen, we suspect the thief may get his comeuppance in the form of a massive dose of salmonella.

In a suitably heartwarming touch, a local businessman has supplied the bereft Sobiegrays with a replacement feast of a turkey, stuffing, vegetables and a small ham.

Microsoft enlists faceless girl band as face of Windows 7

Microsoft enlists faceless girl band as face of Windows 7

Leather-clad Sugababes shove OS through revolving door

The Sugababes may be clumsily plodding along without any original members left in their line-up, but that hasn't stopped Microsoft from enlisting Heidi, Amelle and Jade (who they?) to big up Windows 7.

As usual Microsoft has completely misjudged its audience with the company's latest marketing campaign.

It's already been insisting that you (yes, YOU) "invented" Windows 7 in a series of ill-conceived TV and print ads - when we all know it was really Steve Jobs. Before that there were the Tupperware parties from hell and a brief yet ultimately tragic fling with Family Guy.

But it doesn't end there for the good upstanding citizens of Great Britain - now Microsoft brings us the delights of the Sugababes too.

Interpublic agency UM is behind a campaign to encourage listeners of ballad-heavy UK radio station Heart to visit a website dubbed "Sugababes love Windows 7" to suggest locations for the girl band to perform in.

Aln Sugar's not a Sugababe

Sadly, Alan Sugar isn't part of the latest Sugababes line-up

The winner gets rewarded with the Sugababes playing an "intimate" gig presumably in their living room, on the toilet or somewhere else very small.

If that doesn't excite you enough, there's also the Windows 7-sponsored Jingle Bell Ball next month taking place at the O2 arena, which features among other groups Sugababes, who according to the blurb "are one of the best pop bands of the decade".

Apparently rolling out a leather-clad girl band as the face of Microsoft's latest operating system proves that Windows 7 really is the customer's "idea" - well, according to MS consumer and online flak Paul Davies that is.

The Sugababes three's-definitely-a-crowd-line-up has gone through lots of changes in the past ten years. All of which might lead us to shoehorn in a reference to Microsoft giving itself a facelift by ditching Vista and moving onto Windows 7. But we're not in the mood for taking such a cheap dig at Redmond.

'Mystery Space Machine' laag boven UK gefilmd

Commentaar van Youtube poster chokurei38: "Answers on a postcard for this one. Its not a meteor shower, I have footage of the same object from 3 days later. Its not a satellite or spacestation (ISS or MIR), and its not chinese lanterns, sorry guys !!"

Good morning you lovely people, doing well?

Stormy weather, and in a moment I'll go to the doc, short visit, but well, with this weather -lol-

Best thing to do is stay home and even better, have someone for the catering, envy, envy. :)

The day is good and will be good. Lots of smiles at my face and a lovely cuppa to smile to as well.
And guess what, it smiles back :))

Enjoy your day, it's a wonderful one!

Oh, and under the pic, one click away, is a thing that definitely will make your day, I am sure about that!

Variety

As my grandma always said
I love beans, but every day just beans is boring

We all have our dialy routines
that's normal, and necessary, we need some sstable points in what we do, in who we can rely on
A lot of routine easily is considered to be boring, because it is every time the same

But that is just a matter how you look at it.
The challence is to make the things that are always the same in my day
worth to look at again
There is only a little change needed, to get the glance at a dusty routine day
I Smile, about a sweet thing that happened
I wait just 2 seconds longer than usual, and look up to the sky, or close my eyes
Enjoy those seconds
and, back in the routine again
I experience a new glance
and I can gladly continue

Explanation: Interstellar dust clouds and glowing nebulae abound in the fertile constellation of Orion. One of the brightest, M78, is centered in this colorful, wide field view, covering an area north of Orion's belt. At a distance of about 1,500 light-years, the bluish reflection nebula is around 5 light-years across. Its tint is due to dust preferentially reflecting the blue light of hot, young stars. Reflection nebula NGC 2071 is just to the left of M78. To the right of M78 and much more compact in appearance, the intriguing McNeil's Nebula is a recently recognized variable nebula associated with the formation of a sun-like star. The remarkably deep exposure also brings out the region's faint but pervasive reddish glow of atomic hydrogen gas

Gratis Wifi in Nederlandse treinen

Eerste hotspots vanaf maart

26 november 2009 |

Explanation: If you could go far away from the Earth and look around the entire sky -- what would you see? Such was the goal of the All-Sky Milky Way Panorama 2.0 project of Axel Mellinger. Presented above is the result: a digital compilation of over 3,000 images comprising the highest resolution digital panorama of the entire night sky yet created. An interactive zoom version, featuring over 500 million pixels, can be found here. Every fixed astronomical object visible to the unaided eye has been imaged, including every constellation, every nebula, and every star cluster. Moreover, millions of individual stars are also visible, all in our Milky Way Galaxy, and many a thousand times fainter than a human can see. Dark filaments of dust lace the central band of our Milky Way Galaxy, visible across the image center. The satellite galaxies Large and Small Magellanic Clouds are visible on the lower right. This was not the first time Dr. Mellinger has embarked on such a project: the results of his first All-Sky Milky Way Panorama Project, taken using photographic film, are visible here.

I am not a person that tells others what to do
I think that the others are capable to decide for themselves
I listen to them, and with that often the answer or solution shows up
a way to go

For myself it is the same
I listen to what others tell
select it
and take the way that I like the most
Easy, tough, whatever, it is my way

When people overwhelm me with their well meant advices
Try this, do that
or, even worse
Let's change this, let's do it better

Argh, than I lock myself up against it
and don't listen at all anymore

I should be more patient, and listen anyway
So that I dont miss any good meant word

On the other side
I think that true friendship is
Letting your friends make the mistakes
and be there
when they need you

Not with: see, I did warn you
but with: okay, let's go on

Mankind Using Earth's Resources at Alarming Rate

Mankind Using Earth's Resources at Alarming Rate

WASHINGTON - Humanity would need five Earths to produce the resources needed if everyone lived as profligately as Americans, according to a report issued Tuesday.

[A NASA image shows Planet Earth in one of the most up-to-date images of the world to date. (AFP/HO/NASA/File)]A NASA image shows Planet Earth in one of the most up-to-date images of the world to date. Humanity would need five Earths to produce the resources needed if everyone lived as profligately as Americans, according to a report issued Tuesday. (AFP/HO/NASA/File)
As it is, humanity each year uses resources equivalent to nearly one-and-a-half Earths to meet its needs, said the report by Global Footprint Network, an international think tank.

"We are demanding nature's services -- using resources and creating CO2 emissions -- at a rate 44 percent faster than what nature can regenerate and reabsorb," the document said.

"That means it takes the Earth just under 18 months to produce the ecological services humanity needs in one year," it said.

And if humankind continues to use natural resources and produce waste at the current rate, "we will require the resources of two planets to meet our demands by the early 2030s," a gluttonous level of ecological spending that may cause major ecosystem collapse, the report said.

Global Footprint Network calculated the ecological footprint -- the amount of land and sea needed to produce the resources a population consumes and absorb its carbon dioxide emissions -- of more than 100 countries and of the entire globe.

The think-tank worked out how many resources the planet has, how much humans use, and who is using what.

Back in 1961, the entire planet used just over slightly more than half of Earth's biocapacity.

Today, 80 percent of countries use more biocapacity than is available within their borders. They import resources from abroad, deplete their own stocks and fill "waste sinks," such as the atmosphere and ocean, with carbon dioxide.

The average American has an ecological footprint of nine global hectares (23 acres), or the equivalent of 17 US football fields.

The average European's footprint is half that size, but still too big to be sustainable in the long term.

At the other end of the scale are impoverished countries like Malawi, Haiti, Nepal or Bangladesh, where the footprints are around half a global hectare, or 1.25 acres -- often not even enough to provide for basic food, shelter and sanitation, the report said.

But there are relatively easy measures that can be taken to slow the rot.

"In most high-income, industrialized countries like the US and European countries, the biggest part of the ecological footprint is the carbon footprint," Nicole Freeling, a spokeswoman for the Global Footprint Network, told AFP.

"One of the biggest things such a country can do to reduce its ecological footprint is to manage energy more efficiently and effectively -- for example, by investing in renewable energy and clean tech on the one hand, and resource-efficient infrastructure and compact urban development on the other," she said.

Changing consumption habits can also reduce the global footprint.

"While people living at or below subsistence levels may need to increase their consumption to move out of poverty, more affluent people can reduce consumption and still improve their quality of life," Freeling said.

Dj Vu: Obama Plans to Send 34,000 More Troops to Afghanistan

by Jonathan S. Landay, John Walcott and Nancy A. Youssef

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama met Monday evening with his national security team to finalize a plan to dispatch some 34,000 additional U.S. troops over the next year to what he's called "a war of necessity" in Afghanistan, U.S. officials told McClatchy.

Obama is expected to announce his long-awaited decision on Dec. 1, followed by meetings on Capitol Hill aimed at winning congressional support amid opposition by some Democrats who are worried about the strain on the U.S. Treasury and whether Afghanistan has become a quagmire, the officials said.

The U.S. officials all spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss the issue publicly and because, one official said, the White House is incensed by leaks on its Afghanistan policy that didn't originate in the White House.

They said the commander of the U.S.-led international force in Afghanistan, Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, could arrive in Washington as early as Sunday to participate in the rollout of the new plan, including testifying before Congress toward the end of next week. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry also are expected to appear before congressional committees.

As it now stands, the plan calls for the deployment over a nine-month period beginning in March of three Army brigades from the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky., and the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y., and a Marine brigade from Camp Lejeune, N.C., for as many as 23,000 additional combat and support troops.

In addition, a 7,000-strong division headquarters would be sent to take command of U.S.-led NATO forces in southern Afghanistan - to which the U.S. has long been committed - and 4,000 U.S. military trainers would be dispatched to help accelerate an expansion of the Afghan army and police.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to brief America's NATO allies after next week's announcement, and the allies are to meet again on Dec. 7 in Belgium to discuss whether some other nations might contribute additional troops.

The Monday evening meeting was the ninth that Obama has held on the crisis in Afghanistan, where the worsening war entered its ninth year last month. This year has seen violence reach unprecedented levels as the Taliban and allied groups have gained strength and expanded their reach.

A U.S. military official used the term "decisional" to describe Monday evening's meeting among Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Gates, Clinton, National Security Adviser Jim Jones, Eikenberry and senior U.S. military commanders.

The administration's plan contains "off-ramps," points starting next June at which Obama could decide to continue the flow of troops, halt the deployments and adopt a more limited strategy or "begin looking very quickly at exiting" the country, depending on political and military progress, one defense official said.

"We have to start showing progress within six months on the political side or military side or that's it," the U.S. defense official said.

It's "not just how we get people there, but what's the strategy for getting them out," White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday.

The approach is driven in part by concerns that Afghan President Hamid Karzai won't keep his promises to root out corruption and support political reforms, and in part by growing domestic opposition to the war, the U.S. officials said.

As McClatchy reported last month, the Obama administration has been quietly working with U.S. allies and Afghan officials on an "Afghanistan Compact," a package of political reforms and anti-corruption measures that it hopes will boost popular support for Karzai and erase the doubts about his legitimacy raised by his fraud-tainted re-election.

The British government is offering to host a conference early next year to win international support for the compact.

Last week, Clinton suddenly adopted a more conciliatory tone toward Karzai, whom she and other administration officials had been pressing to clean up the rampant corruption and cut his ties to local warlords, some of whom traffic in opium.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, she said that Karzai had demonstrated "good faith" and added: "Well, there are warlords and there are warlords."

As part of its new plan, the administration, which remains skeptical of Karzai, will "work around him" by working directly with provincial and district leaders, a senior U.S. defense official told McClatchy.

The plan adopted by Obama would fall well short of the 80,000 troops McChrystal suggested in August as a "low-risk option" that would offer the best chance to contain the Taliban-led insurgency and stabilize Afghanistan.

It splits the difference between two other McChrystal options: a "high-risk" approach that called for 20,000 additional troops and a "medium-risk" option that would add 40,000 to 45,000 troops.

There are 68,000 U.S. troops and 42,000 from other countries in Afghanistan. The U.S. Army's recently revised counterinsurgency manual estimates that an all-out counterinsurgency campaign in a country with Afghanistan's population would require about 600,000 troops.

The administration's plan is expected to encounter opposition on Capitol Hill, where some senior Democrats have suggested that the administration may need to raise taxes in order to pay for the additional troops.

Obama campaigned saying that he'd fund the Iraq and Afghanistan wars from the defense budget, but Mullen has said that the Afghan war - which some administration officials privately concede could cost $700 billion to $1 trillion over 10 years - might require a supplemental funding bill next year.

The administration's protracted deliberations have escalated into open warfare between McChrystal and his supporters and advocates of a more limited strategy led by Biden and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel that often played out in dueling leaks to news organizations.

Protesters say teenagers must be given a chance of redemption - even if their crimes are horrific

by Andrew Purcell

NEW YORK - Of all the issues being considered by the Supreme Court this winter, none is more emotionally charged than life sentences for teenagers. The justices must decide whether sending minors to prison without any possibility of parole is a "cruel and unusual punishment" prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution. It is a narrow point of law, but the purpose of America's penal system is in the dock.

[Youths walk in a line at the Texas Youth Commission facility (Photograph: Duane A Laverty/AP) ]Youths walk in a line at the Texas Youth Commission facility (Photograph: Duane A Laverty/AP)
No other country locks up its children like the United States does. An Amnesty International report found just seven prisoners in Israel, four in South Africa and one in Tanzania serving life terms for crimes they committed before they were legally considered to be adults. There are 2225 such inmates in American jails - each one a stark reminder that in the desire to be tough on crime, faith in rehabilitation has been lost.

Defenders of the status quo argue that some rapists, murderers and violent criminals commit acts so heinous they deserve to be imprisoned for the rest of their lives, no matter how young they are.

The organisations challenging this include the National Association of Social Workers, Mothers Against Murders, the Correctional Chaplains Association, the Juvenile Law Centre and a list of religious groups who believe that however grave the offence, it is inhuman to offer a child no hope of redemption.

The Supreme Court abolished the death penalty for minors with its decision in Roper v. Simmons four years ago. In his majority opinion, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that teenagers are less capable of making mature decisions, more likely to act impulsively and more susceptible to peer pressure than adults. He also observed that because their characters are not fully formed, they have more potential to become productive members of society.

The petitioners in Graham v. Florida argue that this reasoning should apply beyond capital crimes, especially where no death was involved. Terrance Graham robbed a woman at gunpoint in her home, a few weeks after completing a previous prison stint for armed burglary and assault. He was 17 years old. The judge sentenced him to life without parole.

The other case being considered by the Supreme Court, Sullivan v. Florida, concerns a mentally impaired 13-year-old who raped an elderly woman. As things stand, Joe Sullivan is one of at least 73 prisoners destined to remain behind bars until they die, for crimes that were committed before they turned 15.

The American Psychiatric Association's legal brief in his favour notes that neuroscience has shown that during puberty, areas of the brain associated with impulse control and risk evaluation are undeveloped. It concludes that "condemning an immature, vulnerable, and not-yet-fully-formed adolescent to die in prison is a constitutionally disproportionate punishment."

Quantel Lotts was 14 when he stabbed his step-brother Michael Barton to death, in what began as a play fight. The dead boy's mother has forgiven him, but the state of Missouri allows no such leniency, having sentenced him to life without parole on a charge of premeditated murder. In several states, there is no minimum age limit at which children can be tried as adults.

Because Sara Kruzan's father was in jail, she was raised by her drug-addicted mother. By her early teens, she had been coerced into working as a prostitute. The abuse continued for three years, until she killed her pimp. She too was sentenced to life in prison with no hope of being set free.

At the Supreme Court hearings, Shannon Goessling spoke for the National Organisation of Victims of Juvenile Lifers. "This system is not set up for rehabilitation," she told the judges. "It is set up for retribution and consequences." Jennifer Jenkins, whose sister was murdered by a teenager, said "there are some people who are so fundamentally dangerous that they can't walk among us."

Former Republican Senator Alan Simpson, part of a group of former offenders petitioning for Graham and Sullivan, gave an impassioned response. As a young man, he started fires, destroyed property, recklessly fired his gun and hit a policeman. "For God's sake, give the guy a chance," he said. "Sort them out case by case. You don't just salt them away for life."

Chief Justice John Roberts has suggested that because "death is different" the Roper ruling has no bearing on custodial sentences for minors. In all likelihood, the decision will again come down to Justice Kennedy.

At one point in the hearing, Mr Kennedy wondered: "What is the state's interest in keeping the defendant in custody for the rest of his life if he has been rehabilitated and is no longer a real danger?" US prisons currently hold 2.3 million people. The larger question is whether a country that incarcerates six times as many of its citizens as the average developed nation has any interest in rehabilitation at all?
