You set appointments all the time, with doctors, dentists, accountants, contractors and hair salons. More often than not the appointments you set actually take place. Once in a while you have to cancel an appointment, but that's okay, because you reschedule it and place the new date and time on your calendar. There is one person, though, that you might never think to make an appointment with. That person is you! Why not schedule an appointment with yourself and write it on your calendar? Schedule some time to do something fun with yourself. Make it a definite date. When the time comes, keep the appointment, just as you would any other. After a few appointments with the all-important you, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. The value of what you do will depend on the value you put into it. Success is determined not so much by what it is you do as by the passion and meaning you put into it. In any field of endeavor that you can imagine, there are those people who enjoy astounding success as well as those who are downright miserable. And if you look closely you'll see that the difference very often is determined by what they each put into what they do. Whatever is to be done, whether it is a phone conversation, a career, a day at the beach, or a routine task, it is an opportunity for you to contribute something of yourself. And by doing so in a positive, creative and enthusiastic way, you can bring about real, lasting value. To get something out of it, to make something valuable of it, whatever it may be, put the best of yourself into it. Rather than worrying that life has dealt you a lousy hand, set about to play that hand exquisitely and in your own special way. Every moment of every day, whatever the situation, is an opportunity for you to add value to your world. Put something good and useful into it, something uniquely you. Put yourself into it and you'll find delight, enjoyment, and fulfillment in what becomes of it. The person that you are acts steadily and powerfully in accordance with your most genuine thoughts. When you think it, there is a part of you that immediately begins to make it real. You are the willing and dedicated servant of your thoughts. The thoughts you hold most often and most prominently set the agenda for the reality of your life. As each day goes by, you draw from life what you think into it. In the large efforts and in the small moments, your thoughts point in a direction that your life dutifully follows. When you truly convince yourself that something must be done, it gets done. Similarly, when you decide that something is impossible for you, it's not going to happen. Thoughts control and direct the miraculous, dynamic energy that is your life. And in each moment, in each situation, in response to each challenge, you can choose the thoughts that serve you best. It is an awesome and powerful choice you have when you select which thoughts to think. And from that choice reliably, relentlessly, flows the experience of your life. Ralph Marston |
