Transgender in prison...in Georgia

Dear hans friedhoff,

When Ashley Diamond was incarcerated at Valdosta State Prison three years ago, prison officials housed her in a male facility and told her they could not ensure her safety because she’s transgender.
Since then, Ashley has been repeatedly sexually assaulted by other inmates, put in solitary confinement for “pretending to be a woman,” and ridiculed by staff who call her a “he-she-thing.”
Even worse, prison officials have refused to allow Ashley to receive the hormone treatment she underwent for 17 years before being incarcerated, forcing her body to undergo a painful transition to a masculine state.
The National Commission on Correctional Health Care and the National Institute of Corrections both recognize hormone treatment as a medical necessity for people who rely on it. So why does the Georgia Department of Corrections refuse to comply with these standards?
Tell GDC Commissioner Homer Bryson to let Ashley receive the medical treatment she desperately needs!
PETITION TO HOMER BRYSON: Stop the cruel and unusual treatment of Ashley Diamond at Valdosta State Prison! Ensure that Ashley Diamond receives proper medical care, especially medically necessary hormone treatments. Take measures to stop the brutal harassment and violence she has endured from guards and inmates alike.
